School Year 2001 – 2002

The building of Our Lady of Fatima Academy, Gen. MacArthur, Eastern Samar was totally renovated.  The engineer and the carpenters started the work in November 2000.  The resident Sisters; S. Ma. Obdulia ADre, RVM and S. Ma. Norma Ermac, RVM temporarily occupied Dr. Danny Catayong’s residence while classes went on in an improvised classrooms until graduation day on March 2001.

In Summer 2001 the construction was solely entrusted to engineer Arnold Alegro because S. MA. Obdulia went to the United States for a vacation while S. Ma. Norma had her classes inSan Carlos university, Cebu City.

In May 8, 2001, S. Ma. Helen del Valle, RVM arrived Gen. MacArthur where she awas assigned as CL Coordinator and MIC Moderator. She stayed at the Catayong’s residence. S. Ma. Diosdada Salvan, RVM arrived Gen. MacArthur as treasurer in her first mission.  S. Ma. Tessamy Quisquirin – Novice, came for a three months exposure in the education ministry.

On the first week of June the Sisters started to prepare the school for the opening of classes which was scheduled on June 11, 2001. Unfortunately, the contractor asked two weeks extension to provide classrooms for the student.  Many parents were anxious of when to start classes. Some parents decided to transfer their sons and daughters to Guiuan / borongan / Llorente / GMNAS Gen. McArthur.

Finally, classes started in June 25, 2001 with unfinished classrooms and noisy machines due to the ongoing construction.  The first week of classes was spent on orientation of the Vision-Mission, facilities, subjects, classroom policies, general rules and regulations of the schools, grading system, and religious practices. In spite of the discomfort, the teachers have shown their effort to convince students to listen.  Added inconvenience was the location of the comfort rooms which were found outside the school campus.

The improvised canteen served native snacks, biscuits and candies except junk food.  So far the students enjoy with such set up.

In June 29, 2001 the institution celebrated the Holy Spirit Mass presided by Rev. Fr. Guido A. Ditalo, Jr., new Parish Priest of Gen. MacArthur, Eastern Samar. S. MA. Rodina M. Bongoc, RVM, Superior-Principal formally welcomed the faculty, staff, students and sisters to the School Year 2001 – 2002.  Introduction of administration faculty and staff follows.

The Sisters transferred to the new building in the evening of July 1, 2001.  However, S. Ma. Obdulia, out-going superior / principal decided not to go with the Sisters to stay in the new building for health reasons.

Bishop Leonardo Y. Medroso, D.D. presided the blessing of the unfinished OLFA building on August 27, 2001.  S. Ma. Luz Manrique, RVM, Vicar General represented the General Council of the congregation.  The Borongan, Guiuan, Oras and Catbalogan Sisters helped in the preparation.

Parents of the graduating class school year 2001 – 2002 met and plan for the graduation of their sons and daughters.  The suggested to complement the school’s new facilities with an improvised stage made of wood and a brand new lectern as their project out of gratitude.

The accumulated PTA registration fee of school years 19999 – 2000 amounting eighteen thousand two hundred eighty eight pesos (P18,288.00) purchased thirty pieces (30) wooden chairs.  The fourth year class was given the priority to use the chairs.

The school year was blessed with eighty (80) brave and persevering graduates.  The school year ended with happy and cooperative atmosphere among students, teachers and students.  It was concluded with the faculty and staffs’ joint retreat of SMA-Guiuan, SMC-Borongan and OLFA-Gen.
