The Sisters, teachers and students were very busy preparing for the OLFA Golden Jubilee. Schedule of practices was made.
Fifty golden years … Fifty times and ways to express and acknowledge for bringing Our Lady of Fatima Academy to the people of Gen. MacArthur. A time to say thank you, a time to recall and a time to celebrate.
It was through the untiring support of the U.S. GMMSRO and the efforts of the Alumni Association, the GMMSRO Manila based and through the Parents’ Association that brought Our Lady of Fatima to its 50th year of fruitful service. The three days celebration was a successful one. It started on August 23, 24, and 25. There was remarkable number of Alumni who attended. Many of the Alumni from other countries came home to celebrate. With the varied activities, they really enjoyed. They were touched by the grand welcome presented by the Administration. Faculty and Students including Rev. Fr. Edwin Juaban the Parish Priest. There were 30 Sisters who were formerly assigned here came to witness the affair. They also met their former students. Including in that number of Sisters who came was our very own Regional Superior, S. Ma. Remedios Reduta, RVM representing Mother General who was out of the country. She stayed with us during those 3 days of celebration. Our neighboring Sisters from Guiuan, Llorente, Borongan, Palo and Catbalogan also came.
The main celebrant during the Jubilee Mass was Most Rev. Nestor Cariño, D.D., CBCP Secretary. He was happy to accept the invitation of S. Ma. Obdulia. Bishop Leonardo Medroso was out of town so he was not able to attend.
The most touching event during the Alumni Cultural Presentation on the part of the Administration and with the Sisters who attended was the Awarding of the Most Outstanding Alumni. It was amazing to witness our Alumni who are holding high positions either in public or private offices. They have every reason to rejoice and thank God for the beautiful graces showed on them for these past 50 years.
The school received a Plaque of Recognition from the CEAP given during the CEAP General Assembly last September 23-24, 19999 in Apo View Hotel, DavaoCity:
“For having dedicated your whole school community for 50 years to the realization of the evangelizing mission to Catholic education by:
Giving witness to its integrity and dignity; your fidelity in integrating the Gospel values in your curriculum your steadfast commitment to the wholistic formation of the Filipino youth entrusted to your care.”
The improvement made this year were the following: the faculty and student’s comfort rooms were repaired which cost ninety thousand pesos (P90,000.00) including the painting and the construction of the water tank and the installation of electric lights. All these expenses were funded by the Alumni working abroad. Individual Alumni abroad sent to the school sets of encyclopedia, typewriter, magazines and books.
The RVM sisters here in Gen. MacArthur expressed their great appreciation and gratitude to all the Alumni during the Cultural Presentation where all were gathered for their loyalty, love and support to their Alma Mater.
May this school Our Lady of Fatima Academy flourish and live forever in MacArthur with god’s abundant blessings and with Our Lady’s constant love and protection.
The Golden Jubilee King was Mr. Salvador Navidad and the Golden Jubilee Queen was Dr. Adelaida Almeida. They were the lucky ones.
